About Us
Mental Health Education For Every Australian
Mental Health Pro is founded by Sharon McCulloch – Emergency Care Registered Nurse, CEO of Australia’s largest first aid RTO, and pioneer of workplace mental health education that transforms awareness into action!
Why Mental Health Pro Exists
The Dual Reality That Sparked a Movement
After 21 years in emergency nursing and 15 years leading First Aid Pro – Australia’s largest first aid RTO – Sharon McCulloch witnessed mental health crises from two devastating vantage points. In emergency departments, families arrived saying “I wish I knew what to do.” As CEO training over 150,000 Australians annually, she observed the organisational ripple effects: talented teams fracturing under stress, departments losing momentum when key people struggled silently, the domino effect of untreated anxiety spreading through entire workplaces.
Mental Health Pro exists because Sharon saw both sides of this preventable tragedy. If more people could recognise the signs early, most emergency visits could be prevented AND workplace cultures preserved. We’re bridging the gap between recognition and response, by delivering accessible, practical mental health education for individuals, workplaces & communities across Australia!
The Critical Gap We’re Filling
While we’ve made physical first aid universal through First Aid Pro, people at every level—from frontline workers to CEOs—often feel unprepared when facing mental health challenges. Sharon has witnessed this firsthand and knows the urgent need for comprehensive mental health training that equips everyone to recognise the signs and respond with confidence.
In the Emergency Department, she saw:
- Families arriving in crisis, wishing they’d spotted warning signs earlier
- Colleagues & friends trying to support someone experiencing severe mental distress
- The devastating impact of unaddressed psychological challenges escalating to emergency situations
- People in crisis who hadn’t sought help, thinking their struggles would just pass
As a CEO, she observed:
- Talented employees struggling in silence, fearing stigma
- Managers paralysed between wanting to help and not knowing how to intervene appropriately
- Senior leaders carrying invisible burdens while trying to support entire organisations
- The ripple effect when one person’s unaddressed mental health challenges affected entire teams
- Skilled people leaving due to preventable burnout
The Human and Business Cost of Mental Health & Wellbeing
The statistics tell a sobering story: One in five Australians experience mental health challenges each year, yet most workplaces and individuals lack the skills to respond effectively. Australian businesses lose billions of dollars annually through absenteeism, presenteeism, and compensation claims, while productivity, team dynamics & workplace culture all suffer.
Behind every number is a real person—a colleague, team member, friend, or leader—whose struggles could have been eased or prevented if those around them had the right skills and confidence to act.
At Mental Health Pro, we bridge this gap with comprehensive, nationally accredited mental health training courses, refreshers & MHFA programs. Designed for individuals, teams, workplaces and organisations across Australia, our mental health courses equip participants with the essential skills to recognise early signs of mental health crises, respond effectively, and provide meaningful support, building healthier, more resilient workplaces and communities.
Our Transformative Vision
At Mental Health Pro, we believe that mental health education should be as routine as CPR certification. Just as workplaces have First Aid Officers, we’re creating a future where designated Mental Health Support Officers use our evidence-based RULES framework – Recognise, Understand, Listen, Encourage, Suggest, to provide practical support.
In the next three years, we envision an Australia where recognising early mental health crisis warning signs is second nature, and the patterns Sharon has seen—gradual withdrawals, rising tensions, preventable crises – become rare exceptions rather than common occurrences. We’re not just meeting compliance requirements; we’re reshaping how individuals & workplaces approach psychological wellbeing and psychosocial safety, making early intervention the standard rather than a last resort or crisis response.
About Mental Health Pro
At Mental Health Pro, we believe knowledge saves lives. With one in five Australians experiencing mental health challenges each year and workplace claims rising 161% over the past decade, the need for practical skills has never been greater. Our accredited training empowers individuals and teams to recognise the signs, respond with confidence, and create psychologically safe workplaces.

Why People Train With Us
Straight from our community.
Meet Our Founder
Mental Health Pro’s founder, Sharon McCulloch, brings a unique dual perspective that keeps our mental health training practical and relevant. Maintaining her nursing registration with AHPRA, she draws on firsthand experience from emergency departments—assessing crises, developing treatment plans, and supporting families through devastating situations.
Alongside her clinical expertise, Sharon has 15 years of experience as CEO of First Aid Pro, building it into a successful nationwide registered training organisation. She has seen how workplace cultures are affected when mental health goes unaddressed, how well-intentioned teams freeze without proper skills, and how managers struggle between wanting to help and fearing they might make things worse.
This isn’t academic theory – it’s practical wisdom earned from saving lives in hospitals and building one of Australia’s leading first aid RTOs. Mental Health Pro combines Sharon’s clinical expertise with real-world business insight to deliver mental health training that works!

Keeping It Real
Becoming a clinical facilitator is what first introduced Sharon to the world of education—bridging frontline healthcare with teaching, mentoring, and real-world skill development. That foundation continues to shape how Mental Health Pro delivers training today.
Unlike many providers who deliver mental health courses removed from frontline practice, Sharon maintains active clinical nursing registration alongside her executive leadership role. She has mentored TAFE and university nursing students and continues ongoing professional development across both clinical and business domains.
This dual perspective means Mental Health Pro’s training is never solely theoretical. When Sharon teaches recognising the signs of mental health crises, she draws directly on emergency department experience. When she speaks about workplace implementation, she does so from lived experience leading a national training organisation.
Sharon doesn’t claim perfection. She’s navigated the realities of leadership, made mistakes, and carried the weight of responsibility—experiences that shape Mental Health Pro’s grounded, practical approach. We teach what actually works because these strategies have been tested in real workplaces, with real people, facing real challenges.

How Mental Health Pro Transforms Australian Workplaces
The RULES Framework: Our Evidence-Based Methodology
Mental Health Pro’s RULES mental health action plan framework provides the structured, memorable approach that every workplace needs:
- R – Recognise early warning signs through observable changes in behaviour, mood, and functioning
- U – Understand cultural contexts, personal circumstances, and individual risk factors
- L – Listen with empathy, creating psychological safety and de-escalating crisis situations
- E – Encourage connection to appropriate professional assistance and support services
- S – Suggest practical coping strategies and self-care tools for immediate use
This isn’t abstract theory – it’s a practical roadmap drawn from Sharon’s two decades in emergency care, tested in real workplace settings, and refined through training thousands of Australians!
The Mental Health Support Officer Concept
Just as workplaces have First Aid Officers for physical emergencies, Mental Health Pro is pioneering the Mental Health Support Officer role for psychosocial and mental health support. These trained colleagues can:
- Recognise the signs & effectively assess mental health crisis situations
- Use de-escalation techniques for acute distress
- Support people experiencing mental health issues such as panic attacks or depression
- Connect colleagues to appropriate professional help
- Create visible safety nets that signal wellbeing matters
Beyond Awareness: From Recognition to Response
Mental Health Pro addresses what Sharon’s witnessed affecting every organisation: when mental health issues go unrecognised, talented people are lost to preventable burnout, and managers experience helpless frustration when they can’t recognise the signs or don’t know how to intervene.
We don’t just raise awareness. We build capability. Our training transforms mental health understanding into practical workplace skills that anyone can apply with confidence!
